The gift of appreciated securities (stocks, bonds, mutual funds, ETFs, etc.) is an easy way for you to benefit Youth Impact Program, while also likely receiving a tax benefit, making the effective cost of your donation smaller.
Do I pay taxes on any capital gain prior to giving?
No. The security is transferred in-kind to Youth Impact Program, which is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization. Youth Impact Program then sells the security, thus there is no tax. You also receive a tax deduction for the amount of the gift.
How do I make this type of gift?
A stock can be transferred to the Youth Impact Programs account electronically, and it is a very easy process. Simply contact your financial advisor or institution where the stock is held and inform them which securities you would like to donate. A gift-in-kind is a donation of a product, items, or merchandise in place of a cash donation to the Youth Impact Program.
