The 2026 Arizona Youth Impact Program (AZ YIP) season officially launched with a successful kickoff event at the Arizona Sands Club, welcoming approximately 60 business leaders, civic partners, YIP staff, and community supporters from across the greater Tucson area. The evening was filled with enthusiasm, purpose, and a shared commitment to investing in the next generation of leaders.
At 6:00 PM, YIP Board Member Jim Krohn opened the program by sharing the broader vision of AZ YIP encouraging youth to dream big, develop leadership skills, and grow into successful citizens who positively impact their communities for generations to come.
Following Jim’s remarks, Raul Torres, Director of AZ YIP, provided a tactical overview of the program. He highlighted the structure and daily activities of the YIP camp experience, including STEM education, sports, physical training, leadership development, and inspirational guest speakers. Raul also discussed the exciting addition of flag football as part of this year’s activities for the girls.
Special guest speakers reinforced the strong community support behind the program. University of Arizona’s head football Coach Brennen, and Head Coach for Volleyball Rita Stubbs spoke about the university’s continued enthusiasm for supporting YIP and the positive impact the program has on youth in the region. U of A’s star Quarterback Noah Fifita also addressed attendees, encouraging students to pursue their goals with discipline and determination.
Additionally, Colonel Jose Cabrera, Wing Commander for the 355th Wing, spoke about the importance of Airmen engaging with the community and the pride the unit takes in supporting programs like YIP.
One of the most powerful moments of the evening came from two former YIP participants, who shared personal testimonies about how the program positively shaped their confidence, leadership, and outlook on the future. Their stories resonated deeply with the audience and served as a reminder of the life-changing impact of the program.
Overall, the evening was marked by strong energy, inspiring stories, and a clear sense of momentum. The kickoff event successfully set the tone for the 2026 Arizona Youth Impact Program year, bringing together community leaders committed to empowering Tucson’s youth and building the next generation of leaders
