What:              49ers Owner & Co-Chairman John York and former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice will be speaking to 100 middle school boys taking part in the 49ers/Stanford Youth Impact Program at Stanford University about the importance of balancing academics and athletics in their lives.


                        Last month, the San Francisco 49ers and Stanford University announced a partnership to bring the Youth Impact Program < http://www.youthimpactprogram.org/ >  (YIP) to the Bay Area. The four-week program is currently in full-swing and is being attended by 100 middle school boys selected from the 49ers Academy,  Luther Burbank, Willow Oaks and Fischer Middle School, which are located in East Palo Alto and East San Jose. The program started on July 5 and runs through July 29 at Stanford University.


Founded by three-time Super Bowl Champion and 49ers alumnus Riki Ellison in 2003, the Youth Impact Program invests in “at risk,” below the poverty line boys between the ages of 9 to 12 years old through an intense program that combines academics and athletics. The boys have been immersed in a collegiate environment at Stanford University with daily time blocks focusing on language skills, mathematics and life skills, while also being instructed in football techniques.


In cooperation with Fresh Lifelines for Youth (FLY), also a 49ers Foundation beneficiary, the life skills component of the program focuses on gang prevention, conflict resolution, health issues and leadership. The boys have been provided on-campus meals, transportation and athletic clothing apparel. The program has utilized Stanford University facilities, staff and student-athletes, as well as middle school teachers from the local community.
